Ministering to the Greater Body of Jesus Christ

Contending For The Fullness

by John Wesley Adams

People look at me preaching and wonder why I am in the wheelchair. I was born into a marvelous Christian home. From the age of thirteen to sixteen years old, I was rapidly going in the wrong direction. I remember coming home late at night being out with my unsaved friends. I would put the key in the door and my mother would get up from her knees in the living room where she had been praying for me and go on to bed. I thank God for a praying mother. Mother's do not under estimate the power of your prayers for your children.

At the age of sixteen, I was out drinking with some of my friends. We were driving too fast and the driver of the car flipped the car. The car started rolling. My spinal cord was broken resulting in instant paralysis from chest down, affecting my hands as well. When they sent me home they told my mother that I would not live long and that I would not live in good health if I did live. My mother never accepted or received that, thank God. It has been forty-seven years that I have been in a wheelchair.

I was released from the hospital on November of 1959. I have not been back in the hospital not even once as a patient. That is not natural it is supernatural. I give God Glory and thanks tonight for a mother who contended in prayer for my life. She stayed with me for thirty-six hours as my life hung in the balance and refused to leave my bed side. She said it seemed like the ceiling in the room was brass. She said that if I had been anybody but her son that she would have given up and felt like I was beyond hope. She prayed and pleaded to God for mercy that I might have opportunity to make my peace with God before I died. Demons came to the foot of my bed that told her they were coming to take her son away. She had never been to a seminar on warfare but she began saying “NO! You will not take my son.” The demons retreated. A song began to well up in her spirit. “My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary Savior divine. Lord hear my prayer now as I pray.” At that point the heaven began to open and she knew that her prayers were being heard.

Soon I came out of a semi comatic state and she shared with me the best she could as to what happen to me. She encouraged me to make my peace with God. As I began to pray the light of God's presence filled that cubical and God came and gave me the biggest kiss of forgiveness. I went through many months of serious adjustments and struggles but the grace of God came to me in that hour and carried me in ways that were not natural but supernatural. I am here tonight and not in hell by the grace of God and you are as well.

I would like to give you a little background to the book of Habakkuk and than have you turn to chapter one. The prophet Habakkuk was a younger contemporary to the prophet Jeremiah. It was at the time when Judah was coming to the fullness of her sin and idolatry. God had warned her through Isaiah, Jeremiah and other prophets given to Judah , that unless she repented from breaking her covenant with God and turned back to obedience to him, judgment was coming.

Habakkuk began to complain to the Lord. “How l ong Oh Lord will I cry for help but you do not answer. V: 3 why do you make me look at injustice. Why do you tolerate wrong?” He couldn't understand how God was letting Judah get by with its rebellion and sin. You know we never get by with rebellion and sin. There is always payday someday. It does come and there are consequences. For some it comes quicker than for others. God said to Habakkuk. There is coming a day of reckoning for Judah . In fact I am going to bring the Babylonians. That wicked nation and its armies are going to come to Judah and invade this nation and land and carry it off into captivity. Well if Habakkuk had a problem before, he really had a problem now. “God how could you use a nation that is more wicked than Judah to come and judge your people and carry them off as hostages to another country?” It is in that context that God gave Habakkuk the prophecy recorded in this book.

“Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days,” “hear me now saints ,” “ I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if you were told.” In the next verse He says, “I am raising up the Babylonians that ruthless and impetuous people and they are going to come and bring destruction.” They did just that a short time later. They lay siege to the city and destroyed it. This verse originally had to do with the judgment of God. However in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul quotes Habakkuk chapter one and verse five and he applies it to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. He began to go to Jewish Synagogues in one city after the other saying, "God is going to do something in your day that you would not believe even if you were told”. I believe it also applies on the side of salvation. On the positive side, I believe we are coming into the end time of history and that God is going to do something in your days mine that we would find difficult to believe even if we were told. I believe judgments are coming like this earth has never seen. God is going to permit anti Christ to have power and there will be an unification of Government of nations, of evil, of anti Christ and of an anti God spirit. There will be unprecedented persecution against the Jews even worse than the Holocaust. This time it will include the church. Those days are coming.

There is an evil track at the end of time where evil will become exceedingly evil. There is another track however. God is going to bring the full victory of the cross to bare upon the nations. God is going to do something in your days with regard to redemption, with regard to revival, with regard to transformation of communities that you would not believe even if you were told. Let's look at some additional verses in Habakkuk. Turn with me to chapter 2:2. “Then the Lord replied write down the revelation. Make it plain on tablets so that the heralds may run with it. For the revelation waits an appointed time. It speaks of the end. It will not prove false. Though it linger wait for it. It will certainly come and will not delay.” There is a revelation that God is giving His church here at the end. God's heart for redemption is fuller than anything that we have imagined in previous generations in history. God is going to bring redemption to fullness. He is not going to shrink back on the purpose of His Son, the promise that He made to His son concerning giving Him the nations as an inheritance. The full victory of the cross is going to be realized in redemption in the earth. Jesus is coming back for a holy, clean, chaste, Bride. We are going to look like Jesus in character and minister like Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are going to proclaim the Kingdom of God in mission just like Jesus did in the early church.

God is saving His very best until last. The biggest harvest of history is yet to come. God wants this very revelation written on our hearts. He wants us to say it again and again and again until it is branded in our spirits. Habakkuk 2:14 “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of Lord as the waters covert he sea.” He again is going to visit us with the power of His Reign and Kingdom. Signs and wonders accompanied by extraordinary miracles are going to occur. People are going to know that Mohammed is not God. That Buddha is not God. That Jesus Christ is God's Son and it is going to bring Him glory, honor and praise. Salvation will be loosed just like a flood in the earth. The earth will be filled with knowledge of the Glory of God and will be known all over the world and among the nations.

Intercessors, sow your prayers into this revelation and do not become weary in well doing. Keep on keeping on in prayer. Persist! Preserver because the hour is coming. As it says, though it lingers wait for it, because it will come and it will come suddenly. In Habakkuk 3:3, God came. Oh what a moment that is. When in history God comes. His glory covered the heavens. His praise filled the earth. His splendor was like that of the sunrise. Rays flashed from His hands, symbolic of the power of God. Whenever God is going to do something unusual in the land, He always begins by bringing, calling, inviting, and wooing His people to intercede. Prayer is always a precursor of revival. Revival is a catalyst in God's heart for transformation. Transformation of lives, marriages, churches, families, cities, communities and neighborhoods. There have been mighty revivals without much preaching but there has never been a mighty revival without much praying .

After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb . ." Rev. chapter 7:9

If you are desperately hungry for the fullness and nothing less, God will give it to you.

Let us pray. Thank you for the saints in the Hudson Valley . Help us to be a people that will stand in the gap. Lord, we are asking for a season and a time to delay your judgments even though we deserve them in this land. We are asking for a time of salvation and for your fire to prevail in New York . Burn up the dross in our hearts. Fulfill your promise and prepare a Bride for your son. Bring forth a harvest and fruitfulness over the state of New York . Come tonight and begin to burn in the bones within your people in the Hudson Valley .

People of God this is not a time to be flirting with the world or the spirit of the age. I exhort you to be careful with what your eyes look at and how you spend your time. I exhort you to be circumspect before the Lord and walk before Him carefully. This is a time to walk before Him in humility. It's a very dangerous time to be flirting with sin. It's a scary thing that how many countless ways the world comes at us in this hour. The television and the commercials have seductive powers. Be careful how you use your time before the Lord Saints.

LORD; PREPARE US FOR YOUR COMING!
