Preparing for a Year of Prayer
By Rose Andrews
In this New Year let us purpose to pray for Sons and Daughters to brought out of darkness into the marvelous light of Jesus Christ. Let us pray to be birth canals likened to Hannah and Mordecai for the births of Samuels and Esthers into our Hudson Valley. Pray for men and women to be born out of the womb of prayer, saturated in the embryonic fluid of prayer that will become influential to both church and state. Hannah‘s petition to God for a son began a great prayer movement for God in all of Israel. What will ours do for the Hudson Valley and the state of New York?
Prevailing prayer has always brought God on the scene. As we look through the accounts in all of history, we see God coming in mighty earthshaking ways to a person or a people on their knees. Jesus is our model of this in every aspect of His life. Jesus could talk to God anywhere and God would hear Him anywhere. However, Jesus knew that in order to hear the Father, do only what He saw Him doing, speak only what He heard Him saying, go only where He saw Him was going, that He would need to pull away from the demands of the ministry and get alone with Him - even if it cost Him His sleep (Mark 1:35).
The Holy Spirit impregnates us when we place prayer at the forefront of all we do. What we birth in prayer can not come from a fabrication of our own hands, but from the birth canal of the Kingdom of God. God's work on earth must be born of God's Spirit through God's means, that being prayer. Prayer shows the world our dependence on God to perform God's Word and His ministry in the earth. Prayer first shows others that without God we can do nothing. Prayer must not be a secondary force in our quest to establish the Kingdom of God. To make it second is to make God second. Without prayer God's work can not be carried out in this earth. If we are not sitting in the counsel of God for our every move as Christians, then whose work are we performing?
As the New Year approaches let us determine that we are going to return from where we have fallen and make prayer the leading force on the top of our list. Let's turn the whole of what we do upside down and make prayer first - thus following God's ways. The heartbeat of God is to follow His heavenly patterns clearly written in the Bible so that the waters of heaven can break forth the Kingdom of God on the earth.
God is calling us into a season of prevailing, fervent prayer, "that we may stand perfect and complete in the will of God (Colossians 4:12)." This year there will be great grace to enter into prayer. I believe we will be mantled with abundant oil to pray here in the Hudson Valley - as never before!
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7 NAS).
